Pessary Fitting
Pessaries are used in the management of pelvic organ prolapse. Some women wear them all the time and some women just need a little extra support when doing sport, imagine it like using a sports bra. Pessaries come in lots of different shapes and sizes as do vaginas and are there to help give relief from pelvic organ prolapse symptoms.
Pessaries are another management tool along with strengthening and conditioning of the pelvic floor muscles. A good pelvic floor muscle function is still very important as your pessary can fall down/out.
What happens during an appointment?
The appointment is for 1 hour if needing longer there will be an extra £50 charge for 30 mins:
- A detailed history will be taken
Discuss symptoms and current management. - Discuss indications and contraindications of pessary use.
- An internal examination to assess pelvic floor strength,
- Measurement of the prolapse and completing a Pop Q score.
- Discuss which pessary would be suitable and explanation of inserting and removing.
- You'll then be asked to get up and have a walk around the room, go outside and walk down the road, sometimes run if the pessary is for sporting use.
- A standing assessment to check to see where the pessary is sitting.
- If the pessary is in a good position and comfortable, you'll be shown how to self-manage – how to insert and remove.
- If the pessary is not sitting in a satisfactory position then we will trial a different size and in some cases a different type.
I do recommend coming back to clinic 2 weeks later for a follow up to discuss how things are doing, check the pessary and answer any questions you have.
Follow up appointments are usually booked at 3, 6 and 12 months if self managing, if unable to self manage then appts with be every 3 months or sooner if needed.
What do I need to bring to the appt
Where comfortable clothing, and wear trainers if you require a pessary for sports.
Unfortunately I'm unable to see patients if they are menstruating at the time of the appointment.
If you've already wear a pessary and need a review it's a 30 minute appt required.
WELLNESS BOOSTERS
Initial appts 30 minutes
Follow ups 20 minutes

Do you get enough vitamin B12?
You'll want to make sure that you do, in order to stay healthy.
Vitamin B12 does a lot of things for your body. It helps make your DNA and your red blood cells, for example.
Since your body doesn't make vitamin B12, you have to get it from animal-based foods or from supplements. And you should do that on a regular basis, because your body doesn't store vitamin B12 for a long time.
What are the benefits of vitamin D injections?
Vitamin D ingested orally can take weeks, even months, to have an impact on your health – and much of the dose is lost when it is converted in the gut. However, intramuscular vitamin D injections have a much more immediate impact – some patients report feeling the effects right away. And because the vitamins are administered directly into the muscle, bypassing the gut, a much higher percentage of the vitamins can be utilised by the body.
So, what does taking vitamin D do?
Maintains bone density and bone health
Supports the immune system
Regulates the activity of more than 200 different genes
Aids the absorption of calcium and phosphate in the body (these are essential for muscles, teeth, and bones)
Helps prevent osteoporosis
Reduces inflammation
Protects against heart disease
Supports brain function
Modulates cell growth
May help protect against respiratory infections
May alleviate symptoms of arthritis (research is ongoing but shows promising results)
Biotin plays an important role in the maintenance of healthy skin, hair and nails. It can also help support the nervous system, help to regulate blood sugar and maintain LDL ‘good cholesterol’.
Vitamin B7 can be found in food sources, including eggs fish, liver, avocado and mushrooms.
Symptoms of vitamin B7 deficiency include dry, brittle hair and nails, and irritated dry skin.
The benefit of an injection compared to tablet supplements is that the vitamin is easily and quickly absorbed.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A VITAMIN C INJECTION?
It establishes a concentration of an essential nutrient into the body. Human studies of Vitamin C injections reveal improved quality of life in patients, including reduced nausea, vomiting, pain and appetite loss, in addition to increased physical, mental and emotional functions.
